Ph.D. Positions in Cognitive Psychology

The Department of Psychology of the University of Basel, Switzerland (Center for Economic Psychology), is seeking applicants for two 3-year Ph.D. positions. Successful candidates will get the opportunity to work towards their Ph.D. in Psychology within projects that are funded by the Swiss National Academy of Science (Schweizer Nationalfonds, SNF).

Review of applications will start on the 1st of May and will continue until the position is filled. European Congress of Psychology

The congress season is on and a lot of them are happening all around the world. There are congress that are more worth than others, depending on your interests.

As psychologist, the European Congress of Psychology (ECP,
www.ecp2009.no ) is quite a place-to-be ! This one is not a student congress but a professional and serious one (i mean, student congress can be serious too, but aren't ONLY serious).

There's a great opportunity for us : FSP offer two places for students.
This mean they pay for you the registration fee.

Great isn't it ? The congress is on the 7-10th july 2009 in Oslo.

Even if you don't pay the registration fee, you shouldn't forget there are some other expenses that are quite important. I quickly checked at it and you should expect around 1000CHF of side expenses (450 for travel, 500 for accomodation and 100 for food). Anyway, there are always some possibilities to arrange that for example with Travel Network
(www.efpsa-travel.net ) which gives you free lodging  ;)

So... the first two persons who confirm they want to go get the places !

Auch dieses Jahr werden studentische Arbeiten präsentiert, interaktive Workshops und Vorträge von Profis aus dem ganzen Spektrum der Psychologie stattfinden. Nicht zuletzt bietet der psyKo auch die Gelegenheit, Studis aus der ganzen Schweiz kennen zu lernen und gemeinsam zu feiern!

A new paradigm that unifies psychological thought?

Do you feel the need for one common thinking frame within psychology? A model that can bridge the different schools of thought in psychology is ready to be discussed, revised, or disputed.

For two years Miklos Fodor, a Hungarian psychologist (with a BA in business and MA in political sciences) has worked on a theory that may become the integrating thinking framework (paradigm) for psychology. The reasons for believing this are:

  • it is easy to incorporate into psychology: the core concept uses just a few, basic, widespread scientific terms
  • the pattern developed from the concept describes different human activities that are currently researched by branches of our science such as, social, personality, and developmental psychology
  • the theory does not contradict any major school of thought; psychodynamics, positive psychology, or cognitive science
  • it integrates current theories and models into one coherent concept, while reinterpreting previous ideas and concepts
  • the whole approach fits well with evolutionary biology, both Dawkins' "selfish gene", and Darwin
  • where there are common points within world religions, the concept's findings about man complies with those points
  • the concept's results are easy to use in practice: therapy, teaching techniques, conflict resolution, increasing motivation etc.
  • it was created independently of the major schools of thought
  • it is able to explain human values while remaining scientifically objective

EFPSA-Congress 2009

Without any discussion, the most exciting experience a psychology student can have during her/his studies is participating at an EFPSA Congress! A rich week full of interesting lectures, work-shops, and diverse other activities, held in a different country each year, provides psychology students from all over Europe with worthy experiences, gained through an exchange on research, and practical level, as well as on a social, and cultural level.

PsyG: Das Dossier ist auf gutem Weg

Unter dem Titel „Neuigkeiten zum Psychologieberufegesetz (PsyG)“ hat das Bundesamt für Gesundheit in der zweiten Julihälfte die „interessierten Kreise“ über den aktuellen Stand der Arbeiten und die Planung der nächsten Monate informiert. Gründlich überdacht würden bei der Überarbeitung aufgrund der Unklarheiten und Widersprüche, die in der Vernehmlassung zutage getreten seinen, der Geltungsbereich, der Titelschutz, die Voraussetzungen zur (selbständigen) Berufsausübung, die Zulassung zur Weiterbildung, die eidgenössische Anerkennung von Weiterbildungstiteln sowie die Vereinbarkeit des PsyG mit Bundes- und kantonalem Recht. Die neue PsyG-Projektleitung im BAG zeigt sich „angesichts des bisherigen Verlaufs zuversichtlich, Mitte nächsten Jahres dem Bundesrat den neuen Entwurf des PsyG sowie die entsprechende Botschaft zur Überweisung ans Parlament vorlegen zu können“.

Beim jetzigen Prozess handelt es sich um eine interne Angelegenheit der Verwaltung. Mitte Oktober dieses Jahres ist eine weitere Information der interessierten Kreise geplant und im Winter soll eine Anhörung (Hearing) mit den Verbänden durchgeführt werden.

Journal of European Psychology Students (JEPS)

What is JEPS?

The Journal of European Psychology Students (JEPS) is a publication that was founded by the Research Network of the European Federation of Psychology Students' Associations (EFPSA) in May 2006 in Spindleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic.
The idea behind the journal was to give psychology students the unique chance to publish their own research in an international journal and to gain experience in the publishing process as well as in scientific writing. The purpose of JEPS is to give psychology students the opportunity to take their first steps in the scientific world without being in competition with experienced researchers.
JEPS provides students a platform where they can present their own work to a vast audience of fellow students and professionals throughout Europe. As such, JEPS has an important role in giving students a voice that will be heard across Europe.
Students can send their research or reviews that they would like to share with fellow European students. Do not hesitate to contact us for more detailed information about JEPS. You will be provided with standard letters to the professors, our submission guidelines and all other necessary documents.
